Preserve the beauty of your piece by following a few precautions and care instructions.
The precious gemstones and metals used in your CHANEL Fine Jewellery piece are delicate.
It is best to avoid wearing your jewellery in the following situations:
Hand washing
When washing your hands, in order to prevent soap residue from slipping into small crevices and tarnishing your piece of jewellery.
Sports activities
When practicing sports, in order to avoid impact and scratches.
For gem-set jewellery pieces
Perfume and makeup
When putting on perfume and makeup: the chemical ingredients in cosmetics can harm certain stones.
Gardening, cleaning, dishwashing
During activities requiring the use of corrosive products (gardening, cleaning, dishwashing, etc.) in order to avoid damaging the stones that adorn your jewellery.
Strong heat
It is also recommended that you avoid exposing your jewellery to strong heat: temperature changes can cause irreversible damage to precious stones.
To preserve its brilliance, each type of gemstone requires special care according to its mineral properties.

Type of material
Diamond
Although diamonds can only be scratched by other diamonds, they can easily scratch other stones and metal.
Although diamonds are hard, they are nevertheless delicate stones, and are liable to break if subjected to impact at the wrong angle.

White ceramic
As a non-oxidising material, ceramic is difficult to scratch. However, when ceramic comes into contact with softer materials such as gold or titanium, deposits of these materials may form, creating the appearance of scratches.

One piece of jewellery can easily be scratched by contact with another piece. Therefore storing each piece individually in its case or travel pouch is strongly recommended.
Be sure to always close your chain clasp to prevent knots.
Before wearing your piece of jewellery, a few simple steps will allow you to check its condition:
Gemstone maintenance
Check that stones are secure. To do so, gently move your finger over the stones. If the stones are loose, our jewellers will inspect the setting.
Clasp system
Check that closures and chain clasps work perfectly.
For pearl necklaces
Check that the silk thread of your pearl necklace is not loose. If so, a pearl restringing is necessary.
In-store appraisal
In addition to these regular checks, you are invited to bring your jewellery pieces to a CHANEL boutique every five years to preserve their beauty and sparkle.
